Welcome to the Bishopsgate Institute online catalogue.

Our Special Collections & Archives document the experiences of everyday people, and the extraordinary individuals and organisations who fought for social, political and cultural change.

This catalogue allows you to explore the records of hundreds of thousands of books, pamphlets, journals, papers, ephemera and objects that we provide a home for.

Our collecting areas include:

  • London history
  • LGBTQIA+ history
  • The UK Fetish Archive
  • Protest and campaigning
  • Feminist and women’s history
  • Labour and socialist history
  • Co-operation
  • Freethought and humanism
  • Photography
  • Oral histories

Our catalogue is continually being updated and we are always working to increase the number of records available. We add material to the catalogue as soon as possible, but if you can’t find what you are looking for then please do get in touch.

Most of our material is only accessible by visiting us in person in London, however, some of the records on this catalogue include low resolution digital copies of material. Contact us if you’d like further information about ordering higher resolution copies or accessing material remotely.

Please be aware that descriptions in this catalogue reproduce original terms found in archival material, including some now considered discriminatory or offensive.
